Golf Tips: Drive The Ball Straighter
In order to score well you need to drive fairly straight.
My main focus for straighter drives is to have the lower body lead
through the swing.
Many great players have emphasized the importance of starting the
downswing with a lateral weight shift of the lower body rather than
leading with the upper body. Using the big muscles to initiate
the sequence of action, creating power.
If I start the downswing with the smaller muscles of my hands and
arms as in picture #1, I lose distance and accuracy.
When I start the downswing by moving my hips and thighs laterally
towards the target, as in picture #2, I drive the ball longer and
straighter.
The next time you go to the practice tee to work with your driver,
focus on starting the swing this way. I'm sure you'll enjoy
the results.
